Gastroptosis refers to the descending of the stomach due to hypotonia. Barium meal examination of gastro intestinal tract in standing position may show the lowest point of the lesser curvature of stomach is lower than the inter-iliac crest line. The disease is often accompanied by abdominal distension which is usually worse after meals, and change of body build, i. e. the disease is more often seen m. tall and thin people than short and fat people.
Clinical Manifestations
The disease is more often seen in the people with tall and thin. body. The mild case may have no obvious syndromes. In standing position, the stomach area is hollow while the lower abdomen protruded with loose muscle. The patient may complain discomfort sensation in epigastric region, easy to be full during or after meal, dropping down feeling in the stomach area, belching, anorexia, constipation, diarrhea, or alternation of constipation and diarrhea. The shape of stool is possibly changed into flat and short.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis can be made according to the report of barium meal examination of gastrointestinal tract.
Tuina Treatment
(1) Apply Gun Fa (rolling method) along bilateral courses of the Bladder Meridian on the back, stress on Pishu (BL 20), Weishu (BL 21), Shenshu (BL 23).
(2) Apply Yi Zhi Chan Tui Fa (pushing method with the thumb) on Danzhong (CV 17), Zhongwan (CV 12), Jiuwei (CV 15), Tianshu (ST 25), Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4).
(3) Apply Zhang Zhen Fa (vibrating method with palm) on Zhongwan (CV 12).
(4) Apply Mo Fu (rubbing method in circles on the abdomen) and Rou Fa (kneading method) on abdomen counterclockwise, and push stomach upwards.
( 5 ) Apply Ca Fa ( backward-forward rubbing method) along the bilateral courses of the Bladder Meridian and Governor Vessel, and on the lumbosacral region transversely.
(6) The patient is asked to have a sitting position. The doctor stands behind the patient. Hold the patient's shoulder firmly with one hand, the four fingers of other hand, palm facing backwards, push 2-3 cun into the space between ribs and scapula from medial inferior angle of the scapula. The manipulation lasts 1-2 min to let the patient have a feeling that the stomach is lifted.
(7) For the patient with epigastric distension and fullness, add An Rou Fa (pressing-kneading method) on Qimen (LR 14), Zhangmen (LR 13), and Cuo Fa (mbbing methods with two hands) on both hypochondriac regions
(8) For the patient with epigastric pain, add An Rou Fa (pressing-kneading method) on Neiguan (PC 6), Hegu (LI 4), Axsanli (ST36), Pishu (BL20 Neishu (BL 21)
(9) For the patient with diarrhea, add Rou Mo Fa (kneading and ™bbing methods in circles) on Qihai (CV6), Guanyuan (CV 4), Tianshu (ST 25) for longer time, and Ca Fa (backward-forward rubbing method) on Weishu (BL 21), Mingmen (GV 4), Dachangshu (BL 25), Baliao (bilateral BL 31, BL 32, BL 33, BL 34).
