Hypertension, which is also called primary hypertension, is a group of clinical increase of arterial blood pressure.The cause of disease is still uncertain. It's usually seen among aged people. TCM
thinks it is usually caused by emotional factors, hyperactivity of liver yang, yin deficiency of liver and kidney, deficiency of yin failing in maintaining yang, uprising of liver fire; over-eating of greasy and sweet food resulting in dysfunction of the spleen and stomach as well as retention of phlegm and dampness. All these factors may turn into wind, fire, phlegm and blood stasis, which
further disturb qi, blood and zang-fu organs, manifesting dizziness, headache, disorders of the heart, brain and kidney, or even hemiplegia..
Clinical Manifestations
( 1) Delayed hypertension usually appears after middle age with slow development and long duration of disease.
1) Systemic symptoms: The symptoms are caused by disorder of central nervous system including dizziness,
headache, tinnitus, palpitation, insomnia and poor memory.
2) Manifestations of impaired target-organ: Take thempairment of the heart, brain and kidney as the main
symptoms.
(2) Accelerated hypertension it's usually seen among young and middle-aged people. It may appear
suddenly with severe condition and fast development. Impairment or failure of the heart, brain and kidney may show in several months or in couple of years. The patient
is possible died of uremia or failure of brain and heart.
It is classified into 4 types in traditional Chinese medicine.
(1) Fire due to stagnation of liver-qi Dizziness, headache, distension of eyes, photophobia, irritability which could be aggravated by tiredness or drastic emotional changes, flushed face and red eyes, bitter taste in the mouth, dry throat, constipation, yellow urine, red
tongue, thick wiry or rapid wiry pulse.
(2) Blockage of Middle Energizer by phlegm Dizziness,vertigo, heavy sensation of head like being wrapper by cloth, fullness in the chest, nausea, poor appetite, over weighted,expectoration of profuse sputum, edema or numbness of limbs, thick greasy or yellow greasy tongu
