Stiff neck takes neck pain and limitation of movement as the main symptom. It may occur at any age. less in children and more in adults over middle age. The patient of mild cases would be rccavcrctl naturally after a ferndays' rat. However. the patient of severe case may have severe pain, which disturlx the daily life seriously, for a few weeks.
Clinical Manifestations
The main symptoms are local pain in stcrnocleidomastoid or trapcxius muscles. accompanied by myosprasm and restricted movement of the neck.
Diagnosis
(1) Neck pain and restricted movement.
(2) Negative result of X-ray examination.
Tuina Treatment
(1) Apply Dian Rau Fa (pointing and kneading method) On opposite Yanglingyuan (GB 34). Bilateral Tianzong (SI 11). Hegu (LI 4) and Quchi (LI 11). While the patient is in a sitting position.
(2) Apply Yi Zhi Chan Tui Fa (pushing method with the thumb) on Fengchi (GB 20), Fcngfu (GV 16) and both sides of cervical muscles.
(3) Apply Gun Fa (rolling method) to relax the muscles of neck. shoulder and upper back. Ban Fa
(twisting method) is better to be combined.
(4) Apply Ba Shen Fa (pulling-extending method) for the nech, while the patient is in a sitting or supine position.
(5) Apply Yao FA (rotating method) an the neck.
(6) Apply Jing Zhui Xuan Zhuan Ban Fa (twisting 00hod by rotating cervical vertebrae).
(7) Apply Ca Fa (backward. forward ruhbing method) on the local area.
